Indian batting superstar Virat Kohli recently tied the centuries record of legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar on 5 November against South Africa during the ongoing ICC Men’s World Cup in Kolkata. Tendulkar went on to send a congratulatory message to Kohli in his unique fashion.
Taking to X, formerly referred to as Twitter, Sachin Tendulkar congratulated Kohli after the latter scored a remarkable ton. Tendulkar wrote:
“Well played Virat. It took me 365 days to go from 49 to 50 earlier this year. I hope you go from 49 to 50 and break my record in the next few days. Congratulations!! #INDvSA”

Virat Kohli equaled the “Master Blaster’s centuries” record by scoring an undefeated 101 runs in 121 balls while hitting ten fours. In addition, Kohli became the third Indian batsman to achieve a century in an ODI on his birthday.
According to the data, Kohli needed to score his 49th century in his 289th match, while Tendulkar needed to do so in his 451st ODI innings. Tendulkar and Kohli’s innings are therefore separated by 175 innings.
Among the other milestones he broke was the eighth time he scored more than 1000 ODI runs in a single year, beating Tendulkar’s previous record of seven. Kohli has already amassed two centuries and four half-centuries in this World Cup of 2023.
