Pakistan legend Ramiz Raja recently praised the merciless Indian team in the 2023 World Cup and drew comparisons between Rohit Sharma’s team and the powerful West Indies team of the 1980s.

It has been noted that Raja declared that India is by far the finest team in white-ball cricket after applauding their performance during the World Cup.

Ramiz Raja made his remarks following India’s crushing of South Africa that took place in Kolkata on Sunday. Since South Africa had been showing off their batting prowess, a lot was expected of the match in Kolkata. However, India crushed the Proteas, inflicting their worst loss in World Cup history – by 243 runs. South Africa was bowled out for just 83 runs against India, who scored 326.

India scored an above-average total with to cameos from Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja in addition to Virat Kohli’s 101 and Shreyas Iyer’s 77. India was unrelenting with the ball as usual, as Ravindra Jadeja took five wickets this time.

South Africa, who had scored more than 350 runs four times during the World Cup, was bowled out for 83 and was unable to survive even 28 overs. In back-to-back ODIs, India became just the second team in World Cup history to bowl out the opponents for less than 100 runs. India had defeated South Africa for 83 after bowling out Sri Lanka for 55.

During an interview with Star Sports, the ex-captain of Pakistan stated that India’s persistent bowling and powerful batting abilities make them similar to the West Indies team of the 1980s. The West Indies squad won the World Cup in 1975 and 1979 and remained as one of the most formidable teams in international cricket throughout the 80s.

“In white-ball cricket, by a long way. Also, from a batting genius perspective, they have got a list of great players. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul. From bowling aspect as well, they are relentless and clinical.

“I compare them to the Windies of the 80s. Obviously, the West Indies had more firepower with the ball, as far as speed was concerned. But when it comes to threatening the opposition with one-way traffic, with big margin wins, they are quite comparable,” Ramiz Raja said.
