Indian skipper Rohit Sharma showcased a brilliant performance in the clash against Afghanistan at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday in the ongoing World Cup 2023. He shattered multiple records during the match.
Sharma tallied his 7th hundred in ODI World Cup to surpass the legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar in the list for most centuries in the history of the tournament. This was also the fastest hundred in any World Cup by an Indian batter. In the second ball of the 18th over, Rohit played Mohammad Nabi for a single to reach the 100-run mark.
Sachin Tendulkar finished with 2278 runs in World Cups the most by any batsman. It is also to be noted that he had 6 hundreds and 15 half-centuries in 45 matches in the tournament. Rohit edged past Tendulkar’s tally for most World Cup hundreds in just 19 innings.
Rohit Sharma also broke Kapil Dev’s record for the fastest hundred by an Indian in World Cups. In 1983, Kapil notched a ton off 72 balls against Zimbabwe in the course of his now iconic 175 not out at Tunbridge Wells. He got to his hundred in just 63 balls as India raced past 150 in just 18 overs in their chase of 273.
