Rohit Sharma led Team India to seal a victory by 7 wickets after a dominating performance against arch-rivals Pakistan in the ongoing World Cup 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday.
Right from the onset Indian bowlers dominated the game. Pacer Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj were leading India’s attack. India bowlers started on a good note as Mohammed Siraj dismissed Abdullah Shafique and Hardik Pandya took out Imam-ul-Haq to provide a strong start to the team.
Pak batting lineup collapsed soon. The Babar Azam-led squad was going well till 30 overs, but as pacer Mohammed Siraj ended the big partnership between Babar Azam and Muhammad Rizwan.
Mohammed Siraj provided team India with a breakthrough in crucial overs as he dismissed Pakistan skipper Babar Azam. Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Saud Shakeel and Iftikhar Ahmed to put Pakistan batters under pressure and then Jasprit Bumrah clinched Muhammad Rizwan and Shadab Khan’s wicket. The batting lineup crippled and the Indian bowlers bundled them for a low score of 191 runs.
Meanwhile, Team India started the 192-run chase on a positive note as opener Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill smashed boundaries. Shaheen Afridi made a comeback in the game as he dismissed Shubman Gill.
Virat Kohli joined the chase with Rohit Sharma and the two batting superstars dominated Pakistan bowlers. Rohit Sharma missed out on his century as Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi dismissed him on 85. Rohit Sharma smashed his second consecutive half-century and led India’s run chase. Hasan Ali dismissed Virat Kohli to end the big partnership and Shreyas Iyer joined his skipper to continue to 192-run chase. Iyer finished the proceedings in style with a boundary which also brought up his half-century.
