ICC (International Cricket Council) Chairman Greg Barclay recently reacted to Arthur’s statement following Pakistan’s defeat against arch rivals India. Barclay said that every event receives criticism but they will review and see where they can do better.
Pakistan cricket team director Mickey Arthur recently lashed out at the atmosphere in Ahmedabad as the crowd at the Narendra Modi Stadium outnumbered Pakistan fans.
There was no lack of support for the home side and fans cheered for their favorite stars during the India-Pakistan clash in the World Cup 2023 on Saturday. Mickey Arthur believes that the match did not seem like an ICC event and that it reminded him of a BCCI event or a bilateral series in India.
“Look, I’d be lying if I said… It didn’t seem like an ICC event, tonight, to be brutally honest. It seemed like a bilateral series; it seemed like a BCCI event. I didn’t hear Dil Dil Pakistan coming through the microphones too often tonight,” Mickey Arthur said.
“So yes, that does play a role, but I’m not going to use that as an excuse because for us, it was about living the moment, it was about the next ball and it was about how we were going to combat the Indian, the Indian players tonight,” he added.
Now, ICC has assured that they will look into the matter.
“Every event that we have, there’s always criticisms from various quarters. Things that perhaps we’ll take away and try to work on, try to do better… so this event’s only [at] the start. Let’s see how the whole thing plays out and we’ll go away and we’ll review what could change, what we can do better, how we can improve World Cups and the general offering around cricket,” Barclay was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.
The ICC Chairman further asserted that the World Cup will turn out to be an outstanding event.
“We will just take it as it plays out, get to the end of the event. I’m satisfied that it will still be an outstanding World Cup,” he added.
