The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are reportedly set to form a committee in order to decide the venues for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023.
Jay Shah has been authorized to form the committee
India Today reported that the task has been handed to BCCI secretary Jay Shah, to form a committee in BCCI’s Special General Meeting (SGM) set to be held on May 27 at Ahmedabad, the venue for India Premier League Final.
“For World Cup venues, BCCI secretary has been authorized to form a committee that will decide on the World Cup venues in India. The board authorized Jay Shah to form the committee today at special general meeting in Ahmedabad,” reported by India Today.
The 2023 Cricket World Cup will mark the 13th edition of the Cricket World Cup. It is scheduled to be hosted by India with the tournament starting from 5 October to 19 November 2023, though the ICC previously announced the final would be on 26 November. It will be the first time the competition is held entirely in India; three previous editions were partially hosted there – 1987, 1996, and 2011.
India are currently involved in a squabble with Pakistan over the hosting process of the ODI World Cup 2023. The Pakistan Cricket Board under Najam Sethi has threatened India that they will not be traveling to play the ODI World Cup 2023, if India fail to arrive for the Asia Cup, set to be held ahead of the World Cup.
It was also reported by the media that Pakistan might want to play their matches outside of India, which will mean that the event will not remain exclusive to BCCI.
