The world number 30 beat Lin Dan 21-11, 13-21, 21-7 in an hour and two minutes to stun the crowd that had gathered at the stadium. Prannoy initially good off to a racing start heading into the break in the 1st game with a significant 6 point lead.

Prannoy then continued to set the pace in the remainder of the game and comfortably pocketed the game 21-11. The Indian started off the second game too in a bright fashion, taking an early 5-2 lead. But Lin Dan was not to give up very easily and fought his way back into the tie.

Following the break in the second game, Lin Dan found his trademark touch and raced towards the finish line as quickly as possible to square things up. However in the third and final game, Prannoy stuck to his basics and forced way too many errors out of his opponent to comfortably win the game 21-7.

The other games saw Sai Praneeth defeat Lee Dong Keun in straight games 21-16, 21-15 while the women’s doubles pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy got a walkover against Taiwanese pair of Chang Ching Hui and Yang Ching Tun.

Pooja Dandu and Sanjana Santosh’s tournament came to a close after the duo lost to Hsu Ya Ching and Hu Ling Fang of Taiwan.
