Indian boxer Ashish Chaudhary made a winning start to his campaign at the World Boxing Championships with a win in the first round on Tuesday in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Taking on 2021 Asian silver medallist Meysam Gheshlaghi of Iran in the 80 kg first round, Ashish produced a dominating performance to secure a 4-1 win and enter the pre-quarterfinals, where he will be taking on top-seeded Cuban boxer Arlen Lopez Cardona.

Ashish initiated the fight with punchy combinations, but Gheshlaghi started to return the damage in the middle of the fight by landing hooks and uppercuts. However, Ashish still kept himself ahead with calculated counters, added with superb footwork.
In the meantime, Harsh Choudhary bowed out in his 86 kg outing against Billy McAllister, losing out to the Aussie pugilist 0-5 to suffer an early exit.
