The Asian Games gold medallist went through to the finals after beating Kazakhstan’s Saken Bibossinov in a closely fought semi finals. Panghal won the bout by the scoreline of 3-2.

He will now play Uzbekistan’s Shakhobidin Zoirov in the finals on Saturday. Zoirov, on the other hand defeated Frenchman Billal Bennama to set up the finals clash with Panghal.

Panghal rise in Indian boxing has only been an upward curve since his bronze in the 2017 Asian Championships.

He then ended up as a quarterfinalist at the world championship on debut in the same year, before going on to win consecutive gold medals at the prestigious Strandja Memorial in Bulgaria.

Panghal then topped the year by becoming the Asian Games champion in 2018.

The current year has already seen him secure the gold at the Asian Championships, following his move to 52 kg category. His next aim would be to put up a good showing at the 2020 Olympics.
