Stellar performances by Nikhat Zareen, the reigning world champion, and Manju Rani, the silver medalist at the 2019 Worlds, propelled them into the quarterfinals of the 6th Elite Women’s National Boxing Championships on Thursday in Bhopal.
The 50kg pre-quarterfinal bout between Telangana’s Nikhat and Meghalaya’s Eva Waynie Marbaniang concluded with a resounding victory for Nikhat, clinching a 5-0 win over Eva.
A comprehensive victory was achieved by Manju, part of the Railways team, against Uttarakhand’s Kavita in their 48kg round of 16 outing, posting another 5-0 domination.
Jyoti Gulia, another pugilist who is part of the Railways and a 2017 World youth champion, advanced to the 52kg quarterfinals after defeating Jharkhand’s Neha Tantubai via another 5-0 unanimous win.
The 6th Elite Women’s National Boxing Championships is featuring of 302 pugilists across 12 different weight classes.
