While Jaismine Lamboria and Shashi Chopra won their respective opening round bouts at the Women’s Boxing World Championships, Shruti Yadav became the first from India to crash out of the tournament on Friday.

Commonwealth Games medallist Jaismine, seeded seventh, won her 60 kg outing against Tanzanian pugilist Nyambega Beatrice Ambos via a RSC verdict within less than 90 seconds into the fight. Her next challenge is against Samadova Mijgona of Tajikistan.

Meanwhile Shashi, the former World youth champion, unleashed her dominating side over Mwangi Teresiah Wanjiru of Kenya, winning their 63 kg clash 5-0. Her next outing will be against Japan’s Kito Mai, who clinched silver at the Asian Championships last year.

The third and final pugilist from the country to fight on the day was Shruti, but due to her height disadvantage, she failed to come on top against Zhou Pan, as the Chinese dominated her to a 5-0 finish in their 70 kg contest.
