Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO, Kasi Viswanathan, has expressed optimism about the participation of former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. This comes amidst speculations about Dhoni’s future in the IPL, especially with a mega auction expected before the new campaign.

Dhoni, who led CSK to three IPL titles, handed over the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of IPL 2024. Despite not having any media interaction during the tournament, Dhoni’s performance remained commendable. He scored 161 runs in 73 balls at a strike rate of 220.55, the second-highest behind Jake Fraser-McGurk.

Viswanathan stated, “We are very, very hopeful that he will be available for CSK the next year. That is the view and expectations of the fans and mine.”

The CEO also addressed the rumours about Stephen Fleming, CSK’s long-time coach, being linked to the role of India’s head coach. He expressed his belief that Fleming might not be interested in the role as it involves a commitment of nine to ten months in a year.

As for CSK’s plans for the squad shake-up expected before IPL 2025, Viswanathan mentioned that discussions would only commence after receiving clarity from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding the retentions for the next auction cycle.

CSK, the five-time IPL champions, finished fifth in the IPL 2024 season, missing out on the playoffs for only the third time. However, they have a history of bouncing back to finish as champions in the following season.
