India beat Australia by three wickets to finish their third-highest run chase of all time in the longer format and sealed the deal by 2-1. Notably, it is their second successive series victory in Tests against Australia Down Under and it is certainly special as the team played without their as many as six players who were ruled out due to injury throughout the series, including Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and all rounder Ravindra Jadeja.

Moreover, they didn’t get the service of their regular captain Virat Kohli who left for India for the birth of his first child with his wife Anushka Sharma.

“Courage, resolve, strength you guys have shown is unreal. Not for once you were down. Injuries, 36 all out, (and still) you had the self belief in you. This hasn’t happened overnight but now you have got that self belief and you can see where it can take you,” Shastri can be seen saying this in the video posted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on its website.

“Today, forget India, the whole world will stand up and salute you. Remember what you guys did today; you need to enjoy this moment. Don’t let it go away, enjoy as much as you can. All the debutants, the support staff, everybody. You have been simply outstanding.”

Meanwhile, India handed over the maiden caps to the youngsters – Washington Sundar and T Natarajan in the fourth and final Test and also included Shardul Thakur, who had the experience of playing only one Test before the Brisbane Test. But nothing could really matter when they started fighting together and eventually came as the winner. However, after the win, they placed at the Top of World Test Championship Points Table as well.

“It started in Melbourne, Sydney was fantastic it allowed us to come here level. And the fact that you pulled this off today is simply outstanding. Shubman (Gill), great work. Puji (Cheteshwar Pujara), you will be known as the ultimate warrior. Rishabh (Pant), simply outstanding. Jinks (Ajinkya Rahane), to lead the side from the position that we were in and to make them bounce back in the middle the way you had, simply superb,” he further added.

He also applauded three debutants and their performance in the Test. Along with them, he also praised the masseuse and physios, who also supported the team well. However, the head coach believed that these things don’t happen every day so the moment should be enjoyed too.
