Nishesh Basavareddy is a 19-year-old American tennis player of Indian origin who recently made headlines with his stunning debut at the Australian Open 2025. Born in Newport Beach, California, to Indian parents Sai Prasanna and Muralikrishna Basavareddy, Nishesh grew up in a family passionate about tennis. His father introduced him and his older brother Nishanth to the sport at a young age.
Nishesh Basavareddy’s background and career
Nishesh’s tennis journey began to gain momentum during his junior career when he reached a peak ranking of World No. 3 and won the boys’ doubles title at the 2022 Junior US Open alongside Ozan Baris. Despite facing challenges, including knee surgeries in 2016 and 2018, Nishesh made a strong comeback. In 2024, he claimed two Challenger titles in Puerto Vallarta and Tiburon and finished runner-up in four other tournaments.
His impressive performances earned him a spot at the Next Gen ATP Finals in Jeddah, where he recorded his first tour-level victory by defeating China’s Juncheng Shang. Nishesh announced his decision to turn professional in late 2024, foregoing his NCAA eligibility at Stanford University.
