In a historic achievement for Indian wrestling, Aman Sehrawat secured the country’s first quota for the Paris 2024 Olympics in the men’s 57kg freestyle category. The young wrestler’s remarkable performance at the World Wrestling Olympic Qualifiers in Istanbul earned him a well-deserved spot on the Olympic stage.

Aman won all three of his bouts with double-digit scores, two of them by technical superiority. His dominant performances showcased his prowess on the mat.

Amid challenging times for men’s wrestling in India, Aman emerged as a beacon of hope. His victory not only secured India’s first Paris 2024 quota in men’s freestyle wrestling but also saved the country from the embarrassment of no qualification in the men’s section.

Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Ravi Dahiya also competes in the 57kg category. If the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) holds trials, Aman may have to face Ravi to book his ticket to Paris.

In the crucial bout against North Korea’s Chongsong Han, Aman demonstrated tremendous defensive skills and counter-attacks. He secured a comfortable 12-2 victory, ensuring his place at the Olympics.

Throughout the tournament, Aman effectively attacked his opponents’ right legs, converting those moves into successful takedowns. His technical superiority was evident, as he didn’t concede a single point against Ukraine’s Andrii Yatsenko.
