For any sportspersons, country comes first and if in case the team needs the player they try to give their best even if they are not fully fit sometimes. While former India spinner Anil Kumble bowled with a broken jaw, another experienced spinner Ravichandran Ashwin too did something at the Adelaide Test in 2018. During the Test, he bowled with a Grade 3 abdomen muscle tear in the second innings.

Ashwin who used to be India’s first-choice spinner a couple of years back has faced plenty of criticisms in his cricketing career. In a recent interview, he recalled a fan praised his performance in the Adelaide Test where he had bowled 90 overs. The off-spinner had picked up six wickets and contributed in India’s win.

While recalling the praise, the veteran spinner Ashwin said on a Sportskeeda Live, “This morning when I woke up somebody reminded me on Instagram about the last wicket of Hazlewood that I took in the Adelaide Test and said that it was one hell of a performance.”

“He reminded me that I had bowled 90 overs, picked up 6 wickets for 150 runs. Yes I didn’t get a 5-wicket haul but he said that is was one hell of a spell where I got India to a famous victory. He also mentioned about the 25 runs I made in the first innings,” he further added.

However, Ashwin has lost his place in the national team and his struggle continues to retain his place. He has been a regular face in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), Indian Premier League and Raji trophy but in the limited-overs set-up, the spinners duo – Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal have been preferred over the veteran. Ashwin has so far picked up 152 ODI wickets and 52 wickets in T20Is for India.

Currently, the situation of COVID-19 outbreak is getting better in some places. And England have started hosting, other countries are slowly getting there. With the postponement of the 2020 ICC T20 World Cup which was scheduled to be played in Australia, 13th edition of Indian Premier League is all set to take its place in UAE from September to November as well.
