After having faced a humiliating defeat in the first Test of the four-match test series, Team India levelled the series with a win in the second. However, they played the game without their regular captain Virat Kohli, opener Rohit Sharma, pace spearhead Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav in the second innings as well. Meanwhile, before going into the third Test, they have good news as Rohit Sharma is all set to join the squad for the remainder of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

After recovering from his hamstring injury, which he sustained during the IPL 2020, the swashbuckling opener reached Australia after clearing the fitness test at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Currently, he has been staying in a two-bedroom apartment in Sydney for the mandatory 14-day quarantine period there amid the crunch time of COVID-19.

However, he wasn’t included in the limited-overs series as well. Although he was added in the Test squad, he couldn’t play in the first two matches in Adelaide and Melbourne. The third Test will begin on January 7, but there’s an uncertainty still as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to test his fitness after the mandatory isolation period.

On the other hand, according to the reports in Times Now, he will join the Test team on Wednesday, December 30. Rohit Sharma hasn’t since in action since the final of the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL) and he has to pass another fitness test to be selected for the upcoming Test.

Rohit Sharma has last played an overseas Test way back in 2018-19 in Australia. But he has tasted a fair share of success after he was promoted to open the innings during the home Tests against South Africa and Bangladesh. There he smashed a double century too.

However, if he gets the chance to play in the third Test, his inclusion will provide with much strength. But since India managed to win against Australia in the second Test at MCG, it will be interesting to see who will be replaced by Rohit Sharma in the playing eleven.
