Nagpur is set to host international cricket after a break of a couple of years as the 2nd T20 clash is scheduled to take place between India and Australia at the venue. However, the buzz and excitement could be marred as the weather report has raised concerns, with fears of rain calling off the match.
India vs Australia 2nd T20I could be called off due to weather
The Regional Met Centre of Nagpur has already predicted thunderstorms and lightning at isolated locations across the Vidarbha subdivision on Friday and Saturday, September 23-24. Nagpur, in particular, is likely to experience generally cloudy skies with a few spells of rains and thundershowers for the next 24 hours.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued a minor-level yellow watch over Nagpur and its surrounding districts, thereby urging people to ‘be aware’ of the thunderstorm situation.
As far as the hourly forecast is concerned, The Weather Channel has indicated that there’s a 40% probability of light rainfall and scattered thunderstorms between 4:30 and 6:30 pm in Jamtha, Nagpur — the area that houses the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium.
Following that the rainfall probability is between 7-14% for the subsequent six hours — a positive sign, considering the sold-out T20 clash between the two sides is set to begin at 7 pm.
Through the course of the game, the temperature will remain close to 25°C, while the humidity levels may reach as high as 89-91%. Such humid and overcast conditions usually favour the bowling lineups. Fast bowlers particularly thrive on these moisture-laden pitches, making today’s match the perfect occasion for a Jasprit Bumrah comeback.
After racking up 208/6 in 20 overs, India failed to restrict the visitors as the Aussies won the match by 4 wickets with four bowls still left to play.
