Ace spinner R Ashwin was involved in a bizarre DRS incident during his return to the Tamil Nadu Premier League on Wednesday, June 14 when Dindigul Dragons took on Ba11sy Trichy in the 4th match of the season in Coimbatore. It was quite a bizarre scenario as R Ashwin reviewed a decision that was already reviewed.

R Ashwin challenges DRS

R Ashwin was seen arguing his case with the on-field umpires after he appealed for a caught-behind decision against Ba11sy Trichy batter R Rajkumar at the SNR College Cricket Ground in Coimbatore.

The incident transpired in the final delivery of the 13th over when R Ashwin appealed for a caught behind against R Rajkumar. The on-field umpire gave it out but the right-handed batter immediately sent the decision upstairs by taking the review.

R Ashwin bowled a carrom ball that turned away from the right-hander and wicketkeeper Baba Indrajtith took a sharp catch as Ba11sy Trichy, led by T Natarajan, lost early wickets.

However, the third umpire went through the replays and was heard saying on the mic that the bat hit the ground and not the ball as it passed close to the bat. To the naked eye, it looked like the ball had a deflection after passing the bat but the third umpire concluded that there was enough gap between the bat and ball after the Ultra-Edge technology did not pick up a spike.

After the third umpire told the on-field umpire to overturn his decision, R Ashwin took a review and sent the decision upstairs again, leaving the commentators baffled.

The third umpire held his composure and stuck to his decision, but only after going through the set of replays again and re-examining the Ultra Edge visuals. Ashwin accepted the decision and moved on with the game.

Ashwin picked up 2 wickets in his 4-over spell, conceding 26 runs while fellow spinner Varun Chakravarthy shone with figures of 3 for 21 in 4 overs. The veteran spinner came up with a tidy first two overs but he was taken to the cleaners by Rajkumar in his final over with the right-handed batter hitting him for 2 sixes and a boundary. Ba11sty Trichy were bowled out for 120 in 19.1 overs after tidy bowling performance from Dindigul Warriors.
