Pakistan defeated India last Sunday to register their first win against archrivals and crushed India’s age-old dominance. After enduring five losses to India in the T20 world cup, Pakistan finally managed to break the jinx. Babar Azam entered the record books as the first Pakistani captain to end India’s winning streak against them in World cup events. Luck favoured the Green brigade in the toss, and Pakistan elected to bowl first. The 21-year-old Shaheen Afridi enjoyed a dream spell of his life when he sent Indian openers with the powerplay. The mighty Pakistan bowling lineup never let India go after them and succeeded in restricting batting-heavy Indian batters. Losing KL Rahul (3), Rohit Sharma (0), and Suryakumar Yadav (11) in regular intervals forced skipper Kohli (57) and wicketkeeper Pant (39) to play safe and not go for big shots. India managed to put a score of 151/7 in 20 overs. Chasing a moderate score, Pakistan openers Mohammad Rizwan (79) and Babar Azam (68) slammed Indian bowlers and clinched a memorable victory (by 10 wickets) over India. None of the Indian bowlers prevented world no.2 (Babar Azam) and no.7 (Rizwan T20) batters from grasping an impressive win. India must win against New Zealand to keep themselves alive in the race to the semifinals.
Men in Green continued their dominance in the mega event and emerged triumphant second time in a row against Kane Williamson-led New Zealand. Kiwi bowlers managed to defend a little score till the end, but the total (131) wasn’t enough to restrict Pakistan batters. Shoaib Malik used all his experience to take the team over the line to grab a back to back win in the tournament. The Black Caps are known for powerful comebacks and look to bounce against India this Sunday. However, New Zealand enjoys an edge over India in World Cup events. India and New Zealand will lock horns in Dubai to open their account.
