WATCH: Stuart Broad bowls the most expensive over in Test cricket; Bumrah scores a flurry of boundaries

England bowler Stuart Broad has become the holder of the most expensive over in the history of Test cricket. The veteran pacer conceded 35 runs in 84th over of the first innings on Day 2 at Edgbaston, Birmingham. Jasprit Bumrah dispatched all of the deliveries, barring the last one to the boundary to push India’s total past 400.

The hosts had done the hard work by finally claiming the wicket of Ravindra Jadeja, who notched his first overseas hundred. Looking to restrict India to under 400, England were on the lookout to dismantle the tail quickly. They seemed to be on the right course after claiming the wicket of Mohammad Shami.

However, Bumrah, who was the wreck-in-chief with the bat in the Lord’s Test last year stepped up once again. Leading the side this time, the pacer began the 84th over with a boundary on the fine-leg fence. Broad followed up with a bouncer that flew over the keeper and a no-ball which Bumrah hit for a six. Boundaries continued to flow before Bumrah took a single to retain the strike, ending the over with 35 runs off it.

The previous record for the most expensive over in Test cricket was held by Broad’s teammate James Anderson. The 40-year-old had conceded 28 runs off George Bailey in the 2014 Ashes, he shares the record with two other bowlers.

India put on 41 crucial runs for the last wicket in just 18 deliveries to push their first-innings total to 416.
