Wasim Jaffer Raises Concerns About India’s ODI Schedule Before Champions Trophy

Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer has voiced apprehensions regarding India’s ODI schedule leading up to the Champions Trophy 2025. India, the reigning T20 champions, recently faced a setback in a three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, losing 2-0. Jaffer commended Sri Lanka’s performance but highlighted India’s limited preparation time before the prestigious ICC event.

India’s defeat against Sri Lanka doesn’t overly concern Jaffer, as wins and losses are part of the game. However, he emphasized the significance of adequate match practice ahead of major tournaments.

Wasim Jaffer’s thoughts on play time ahead of CT 25

“SL played better cricket and deserve the series win. It doesn’t worry me that India lost a series. Wins and losses are part of the game. However it’s a point of concern that India has just 3 ODIs before the Champions Trophy,” wrote Jaffer on his X account.

India is slated to play just three more ODIs before the Champions Trophy in February 2025, where they will compete against England. This tight schedule leaves little room for fine-tuning their playing combination and addressing lingering questions.

Star fast bowler Mohammed Shami, likely to feature in the ICC event, will have only three games to prepare. Shami was the highest wicket-taker in the ODI World Cup 2023, showcasing his crucial role in India’s bowling lineup.

While the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has submitted the draft schedule for the Champions Trophy, India’s participation remains unconfirmed due to strained political relations between the two countries
