Legendary Pakistani fast bowler Wasim Akram recently shared valuable insights with Team India’s Arshdeep Singh during the 2024 T20 World Cup. Akram emphasized that Arshdeep should take inspiration from Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi’s new-ball bowling style.
Akram suggested that Arshdeep should focus on pitching the ball at a fuller length. This approach would be particularly beneficial on the West Indian pitches during the Super 8 round.
Wasim Akram Opens up on Arshdeep Singh
“He (Arshdeep) will get some help with the new ball in West Indies. The pitches aren’t very flat like we’ve seen in the IPL or Pakistan. He can take a chance with the new ball and pitch it up. Bowl like Shaheen Afridi” Wasim Akram stated.
“He can try that. Keep the mid-on and mid-off a bit straighter, so even if he misses the mark with the yorker, the two fielders can stop the straight shots. For his second spell, he should be using variations.”
Akram suggested that Arshdeep should focus on pitching the ball at a fuller length. To prevent boundaries even if he misses his mark, Arshdeep should keep the mid-on and mid-off fielders straighter. This strategic positioning provides protection and minimizes the risk of conceding runs.
Akram recommended that Arshdeep rely on variations during his second spell. Mixing up deliveries will keep the batsmen guessing and enhance his effectiveness.
Arshdeep Singh has been in impressive form, currently leading the Men in Blue’s wicket-takers with 10 scalps in four games. Akram also expressed hope that Arshdeep considers Test cricket, emphasizing that leaving a legacy requires success in the longest format.
