Washington was part of a youthful Indian squad that toured Zimbabwe for a five-match T20I series. With regular T20I players resting after their Men’s T20 World Cup victory, Sundar stepped up as the team’s leading spin-bowling all-rounder.

In the first T20I against Zimbabwe, he delivered impressive bowling figures of 2/11 and contributed a crucial 27 runs with the bat, keeping India in the game despite an unexpected loss. Sundar’s consistent improvement and refined skills showcased his value to the team.

India turned the series around, winning four consecutive matches to secure a 4-1 victory. Sundar played a pivotal role, taking six more wickets across the remaining matches. His outstanding figures of 3/15 in the third game earned him the Player of the Match title. Overall, he finished with the joint-most wickets (eight) and was named the Player of the Series.

With regular players back for the Sri Lanka series, Sundar had limited opportunities. However, he made the most of his chance in a thrilling Super Over encounter. His performance earned him the Player of the Match award, showcasing his ability to deliver under pressure.

Sundar’s journey has been marked by perseverance and battling injuries. Now, he seems to have finally established himself in the Indian team in international cricket. As he continues to refine his skills, Washington Sundar represents the future of Indian cricket—a promising talent who can contribute both with the ball and the bat.
