Former Indian batting stalwart VVS Laxman expects Rohit Sharma will hit a century on his return to the Test squad against Australia in Sydney.

Following recovery from a hamstring injury, Rohit Sharma will mark his comeback to the red-ball format in the third match of the Australia Test series, which will commence from 7th January at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

While Team India has recovered well in the second Test in Melbourne, avenging their disappointing defeat in the first Test and tieing the series 1-1 with the Aussies, the country’s cricket fandom is highly eager on the return of the “Hitman” to the 22 yards.

In the meantime, former Men in Blue icon VVS Laxman has worded in on Rohit Sharma’s comeback, hoping that the swashbuckling batsman will land a stupendous ton in Sydney.

Rohit Sharma’s batting style is well suited for Australian wicket: VVS Laxman

Speaking on the latest episode of Star Sports’ ‘Cricket Connected’ show, Laxman asserted that the squad will adore the addition of Rohit Sharma’s experience to the unit, which is currently without the leadership of Virat Kohli.

“The Indian cricket team will be very pleased to have Rohit Sharma back,” Laxman said in the show, “You want more experience in the Indian dressing room, because now is the perfect opportunity for us to go 2-1 in Sydney and then probably win 3-1.”

Furthermore, Laxman pointed out Rohit’s batting style to befit from the Aussie pitch, which will very likely help the 33-year-old land a century in the match.

“Rohit Sharma himself would like to showcase his talent, because I always feel that his style of batting and talent is very suited for the Australian wicket,” Laxman went on, “so, if he gets his eye in, if he sees through the new ball, I’m sure that a big hundred is on the cards as far as Rohit’s batting is concerned.”

In his 32 red-ball appearances for India, Rohit Sharma has scored six centuries and ten fifties. He scored a whopping 212 against South Africa in 2019 October, which also marks his last Test ton.
