VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid’s unbelievable fightback in the 2001 Kolkata Test

In the 2001 Kolkata Test, Laxman and Dravid stitched an incredible 376-run stand against Australia. This partnership played a pivotal role in India’s legendary comeback victory at Eden Gardens. Laxman scored a magnificent 281 runs, which remained the highest score by an Indian in Test cricket until it was surpassed by Virender Sehwag. Dravid, on the other hand, showcased his class with a brilliant knock of 180 runs.

The Kolkata Test of 2001 remains etched in cricketing folklore for the remarkable turnaround engineered by Laxman and Dravid. Facing a daunting task after Australia amassed 445 runs in their first innings and then being bowled out for a mere 171, India seemed destined for defeat. However, Laxman and Dravid had other plans.

The duo embarked on an extraordinary partnership that defied all odds and expectations. Their record-breaking stand of 376 runs instilled belief in the Indian camp. The bowlers, led by Harbhajan Singh, then scripted a brilliant comeback to secure a win for the side. Singh’s memorable six-wicket haul in the second innings helped India seal a historic win by 171 runs.

The unforgettable match and those two memorable innings from Laxman and Dravid are still etching in the hearts of Indian Cricket fans, even after 23 years.
