The ongoing ASBC Asian U-22 & Youth Boxing Championships 2024 in Astana, Kazakhstan, has been a platform for young pugilists to showcase their talent. Among the participants, Indian boxers Vishvanath Suresh and Akash Gorkha have made their mark by progressing into the men’s U-22 semi-finals.
Indians roar at Youth Boxing Championships
Vishvanath Suresh, the reigning youth world champion in the 48kg category, led the charge for India. He dominated Iran’s Hassani Seyedarsham in a one-sided quarter-final bout, clinching a comfortable 5-0 win. His performance was a testament to his skill and determination, and he is now one step closer to the championship title.
Following in Vishvanath’s footsteps, senior national champion Akash Gorkha, competing in the 60kg category, outclassed Ebadi Arman of Iran with an identical 5-0 scoreline. Akash’s convincing victory in the quarter-finals has set high expectations for his performance in the semi-finals.
The semi-final bouts of the ASBC Asian U-22 & Youth Boxing Championships 2024 will be played on Saturday. Both Vishvanath and Akash have shown promising performances so far, and their upcoming matches are eagerly anticipated.
In addition to Vishvanath and Akash, Preet Malik also advanced to the men’s U-22 semi-finals. However, Kunal, competing in the 75kg category, bowed out after losing 0-5 against Iran’s Mahshari Mohammad in the quarter-finals.

The tournament, which features over 390 boxers from more than 24 countries, fighting for medals across 25 weight categories, has been witnessing high-voltage action. The finals for the ASBC Asian U-22 & Youth Boxing Championships will be played on May 6 and 7 respectively.’
