Virat Kohli, one of the most celebrated cricketers in the world, has recently faced a significant drop in the ICC Test rankings after a disappointing series against New Zealand. Kohli, who was ranked sixth before the series, has now slipped to the 22nd spot, marking his worst ranking drop in a decade.

Virat Kohli’s Performance in the Series

During the three-match Test series, Kohli managed to score only 93 runs across six innings, averaging a mere 15.50. This performance is a stark contrast to his usual high standards, and it has resulted in India’s first-ever 3-0 whitewash at home by New Zealand.

This drop is particularly significant as it is the first time since December 2014 that Kohli has fallen out of the top 20 in the ICC Test rankings. Over the years, Kohli has been a consistent performer, often ranking among the top five batters in the world. However, his recent struggles, especially against spin, have raised concerns about his form and future performances.

Kohli’s decline has also had a ripple effect on the Indian cricket team’s morale and performance. Alongside him, fellow senior player Rohit Sharma also saw a drop in rankings, slipping to the 26th spot. This has led to increased pressure on the younger players to step up and fill the void left by the experienced duo.
