The rivalry between the two cricket frenzied nations of India and Australia have been heated over the years. Leading the aggression is none other than Virat Kohli, who has had his ups and downs in the land down under. Tim Paine supported the evidence in hand to claim that the Indian skipper is quite a polarising figure in Australia.

Australian skipper Tim Paine, who prepares for the Men In Blue along with his contingent spoke to ABC sport ahead of the Border-Gavaskar series. He claimed that he is no stranger to questions about his opposition skipper and made it clear that he is just another player and nothing more than that.

“I get asked a log of questions about Virat Kohli, he is just another player to me it does not really bother me. There is not really a relationship there with him to be fair, I see him at the toss and play against him and that’s about it,” Paine told ABC Sport.

Paine reserved his admiration for Kohli and revealed that just like him, the rest of the Australians love to hate the ace batsmen, but admire his exceptional batting.

“With Virat, it is a funny one, we love to hate him but we also love to watch him bat as cricket fans. He certainly is polarising in that type of scenario. We love watching him bat, but we don’t like seeing him score too many runs,”

No special aggression or animosity held against Kohli: Paine

Tim Paine cleared the air by justifying the Australians’ aggression and hostility towards their opponents on the field. Recalling their altercation during their last encounter, Paine reiterated that a few words were exchanged in the heat of the moment, and that’s about it.

“Australia and India, it is a heated competition and he is obviously a competitive person and so am I. There were a few occasions when we had words, but that wasn’t because he was the captain and I was the captain. It could have been anyone,” the Tasmanian said

To conclude, Australia’s test captain stated that the intensity of the team automatically goes up a notch when they are up against the best players in the world.
