Favourites going into the semi-finals, one bad day and it ruined everything for the men in blue, which left many eyebrows raised to whether we need an IPL style playoffs in the World Cups knockout stage in order to ensure a level-playing field.

During the press conference Virat admitted that India lost the game in the first 45-minutes of their chase of 240, shattering a billion hopes which were riding on the shoulders of 15-men who were playing for the country.

Asked whether an IPL style playoffs could be an option in the future, Kohli said “Who knows in future. Maybe. If topping the table means anything. I think these, things can be implemented, looking at the intensity of the tournament.” He further added that the semi-finals of the World Cup has its own charm as it negates a team’s previous performances in the tournament.

Kohli was in total praise for Ravindra Jadeja who stitched an important partnership with Mahendra Singh Dhoni in order to keep India alive in the run-chase.

Virat was also in full praise of the Kiwi team which bowled well to defend a modest total and quoted “I wasnt surprised with how New Zealand played, to be honest if there is a low total, we knew there’s probably only one or two sides in world cricket that will put seven fielders in the ring and that was always going to be New Zealand”
