In the first T20 international match hosted in India against Australia at the Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy Cricket Stadium in Vizag, the host lost the match by three wickets.
Batting first, Team India was only able to put a total of 126 runs on the board. Despite having a small score to defend, team India took the match to the final bowl in an impressive display.
India’s batting order flopped although Lokesh Rahul scored an impressive 50 runs off 36 deliveries and captain Virat Kohli scored a quick 24 runs off 17 deliveries. But despite that India’s low order failed bigtime.
Skipper Virat Kohli, however, wasn’t pleased with the batting performance as India were playing impressively in the first ten overs. The Indian side was 80/2 in the first 10 overs.
“In the first innings, we were not up to scratch. The wicket was decent enough till the 15th over. We didn’t bat really well. A low scoring game is always on the cards in T20 cricket,” said Kohli in the post-match interview.
He later went on to praise Jaspreet Bumrah who gave only 16 runs in 4 overs and took 3 wickets for the Indian side.
“With the bowling effort, we were pleased. Bumrah can do wonders with the ball when it is reversing and did exceptionally well to get us in the game. And Mayank did well in the middle overs as well,” said Kohli.
The 2nd T20I is scheduled to take place in Bengaluru on 27th February.
