Its been two years since Virushka’s marriage, and yesterday on the eve of their second anniversary, the Men in Blue skipper gave the best present to his better half- a blistering 70 runs against West Indies!
Yesterday on the third day of their T20 series against the Windies, who won the toss and chose to bowl first. Team India stacked up a staggering 240 for 3 in the first innings. Kohli’s storming 70 runs came off of just 29 balls, consisting of 4 fours and 7 sixes.
In the post match interview, the 31 year old said:
“It was a pretty special innings and also being our second wedding anniversery, it was a special gift (for Anushka). I was in the zone and I carried on.”
It didn’t just stop there. While heading back to the pavilion with Shreyas Iyer, Kohli was seen blowing a kiss towards Anushka in the sands. Check it out int he clip below, courtesy of @gurruchoudhary.

Although the supporters were wishing to see a century from their leader on the 2nd anniversary of India’s favourite couple, but Kohli’s ferocious spell was nothing short of that.
Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium saw a monumental partnership from the Indian openers. Rohit Sharma and K L Rahul stacked a tremendous 135 run partnership by the 12th over. A hard hitting Sharma scored 71 off 34 with 6 fours and 5 sixes. Rahul, who managed to keep strike till the antepenultimate ball of the first innings, was just 9 runs shy from scoring a century. His 91 including 9 fours and 4 sixes came from 56 balls.
Kohli continued- “We had spoken a lot about it. It was about going out there and executing. I had told KL that he needs to bat on and hold one end. Batting first we won and it feels really good.”
This was a 2-1 victory for the hosts in the series, after failing to defend a mediocre 170 at the Greenfield Stadium on Sunday.
“I know I can contribute in all three formats. I think two guys in the middle with clarity and the way Rahul and Rohit played today was the key today. Batting first, we have been too tight and hesitant, but this pitch allowed us to play freely.” the skipper added.
Deepak Chahar, Bhubaneshwar Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Shami all secured two witckes each, as West Indies were packed under 173-8 within 20 overs.
“You don’t really feel the pressure when you have 20-25 runs extra on the board.” Kohli and his boys eased into a 67 runs victory over the visitors.
As the 2020 T20 World Cup approaches, the Royal Challengers Bangalore captain is hopeful to maintain similar output in the homeland of Aussies. Playing the World Cup in Australia, we will have to figure out how big the boundaries are,” he added.
