VIJENDER SINGH IS CURRENTLY UNBEATEN IN HIS PRO BOXING CAREER

In what is going to be his first match since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, he will face Lopsan in a Supermiddleweight encounter. The match will take place on March 19, 2021, on the rooftop deck of the Majestic Pride Casino Ship in Panaji, Goa.

As an amateur boxer, Singh has won medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, 2009 World Championships and the 2010 Commonwealth Games. In June 2015, Vijender Singh turned professional and signed a multi-year agreement with Queensberry Promotions through IOS Sports and Entertainment. Since turning professional, he has maintained his success. He was won all of his 12 professional bouts until now. Out of his 12 victories, 8 has been through knockouts and the rest through decision.

Singh mentioned that the year had not been too advantageous for him, as he had difficulties making his body move. However, the last two months have been wonderful for him, as he has received help from Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Jai Bhagwan.

“It wasn’t the easiest year and initially it took a while for the body to respond. But the last two months have been fabulous for me. Jai Bhagwan helped me with my training here in Gurgaon,” he spoke to PTI.

His coach Lee Beard, who has overseen his progress since he turned pro in 2015, cannot be physically present because of Covid-19 related regulations but has always been helpful online whenever he has been consulted. Jai Bhagwan is presently putting up with the chores of being his coach.

“Lee Beard couldn’t be here because of coronavirus restrictions but he has been supportive and has been available online whenever I needed advice. Jai, you can say, is my coach right now,” Singh said.

LOPSAN AIMS TO END THE STREAK

Lopsan is attempting to end his opponent’s 12 matches unbeaten streak.

“Vijender is a good fighter but I’m here to end his unbeaten streak. What better way to end his streak than knocking him down in front of his audience. I’ve trained hard for this fight and I’m rearing to go,” he says.
