National champion Velavan Senthilkumar has made a significant impact at the German Open Squash, reaching the quarterfinals. The Indian squash player stunned the eighth seed, George Parker of England, to secure his spot in the next round.

Senthilkumar, a 2023 Asian silver medalist, displayed remarkable consistency in his match against Parker. The game, which lasted 61 minutes, saw Senthilkumar secure an 11-5, 11-8, 9-11, 11-9 victory. Despite Parker’s resilience, Senthilkumar’s determination prevailed.

The match began with Senthilkumar gaining an early lead, putting Parker on the backfoot. Parker struggled to keep up with the pace of his Indian rival and lost the first game 5-11. In the second game, Parker fought for every point, scoring through some accurate drops. However, Senthilkumar played crucial points better to take a 2-0 lead.

Parker came back with more focus in the third game, displaying his quality with some aggressive shot-making to win the game 11-9. However, Senthilkumar didn’t make any mistakes in the fourth game and won it 11-9 despite some resistance from Parker.

In the quarterfinals, Senthilkumar will face No. 4 seed Eain Yow Ng of Malaysia. This match promises to be an exciting encounter, given both players’ current form and determination.

Earlier, Senthilkumar, ranked 59 in the world, had defeated Yassin Elshafei of Egypt 6-11, 7-11, 11-6, 11-3, 11-9 in 62 minutes in the first round. This victory set the stage for his impressive performance against Parker.
