Velavan Senthilkumar and Rathika Seelan to lead Indian contingent at Asian Squash Team Championships

The 22nd Asian Team Squash Championships, scheduled to be held in Dalian, China, from June 12-16, will witness a strong Indian contingent led by Velavan Senthilkumar and Rathika Seelan.

Velavan Senthilkumar to lead Men’s team

Velavan Senthilkumar, the reigning men’s national champion, is a force to be reckoned with. His prowess on the squash court has been demonstrated time and again, making him a formidable opponent for any player. His leadership will be crucial in guiding the men’s team, which also includes the 2023 National Games champions Abhay Singh, Rahul Baitha, and Suraj Chand.

On the women’s side, Rathika Seelan, a semi-finalist in the national championships, will spearhead the challenge. Her agility and tactical acumen make her a tough competitor. The women’s team also comprises Pooja Arthi R, Sunita Patel, and Janet Vidhi.

The Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI) announced these teams after holding selection trials at the Indian Squash & Triathlon Academy in Chennai. The selection is to nurture young athletes for future international events, including the 2026 Asian Games and the 2028 Olympics.

The Indian squash teams have a history of strong performances at the Asian level. The men’s team clinched the gold medal at the Asian Games in 2023, marking a significant achievement. This victory has undoubtedly boosted the morale of the Indian contingent and set high expectations for the upcoming championships.

However, the Asian Team Squash Championships will not be an easy battleground. The competition will be fierce, with teams from across Asia vying for the top spot. The Indian teams will need to bring their best game to the court, capitalizing on their strengths and working on their strategies. Senthilkumar and Seelan, with their experience and skill, will play a pivotal role in leading their respective teams.
