Velavan Senthilkumar and Abhay Singh bow out of QSF 3 Squash Tournament

The QSF 3 squash tournament in Doha, a prestigious PSA World Tour Bronze event, witnessed the commendable performance of Indian squash players Velavan Senthilkumar and Abhay Singh. Both athletes made it to the quarterfinals, marking their presence on the international stage.

Velavan Senthilkumar’s impressive run at the tournament

National champion Velavan Senthilkumar and Asian Games medallist Abhay Singh started their journey at the tournament with stunning victories. Senthilkumar defeated Egyptian seventh seed Omar Mosaad, a former world No. 3, 13-11 11-3 9-3 after the latter retired in 30 minutes due to an injury. Similarly, Abhay Singh triumphed over sixth-seeded Frenchman Auguste Dussourd 11-7 5-11 10-12 11-5 9-3, who also conceded his match in 59 minutes.

However, the quarterfinals proved to be a challenging stage for both players. Senthilkumar extended Egyptian top seed and world No. 8 Tarek Momen to four close games before bowing out. Despite winning the second game after a close opener, the experienced Momen won the next two games, ending Senthilkumar’s journey with an 11-9, 8-11, 11-4, 11-8 victory.

On the other hand, Abhay Singh, contesting his maiden World Tour quarterfinals, faced Malaysian third seed and world No. 15 Eain Yow Ng. Despite a spirited performance, Abhay lost the match 11-6, 11-9, 11-4.

Despite their loss in the quarterfinals, both Senthilkumar and Abhay showcased their skills and determination at the tournament. Their performances reflect the growing strength of Indian squash on the international stage. The experience gained from competing against top-ranked players will undoubtedly aid their future endeavours.
