Michael Vaughan and Michael Holding voice concern for the Indian team in the lengthy tour

India have started their tour of Australia with a 66 run loss in the first ODI in Sydney. After the defeat, former Windies bowler Michael Holding has said that Virat Kohli’s squad missed someone like MS Dhoni, the former captain, as well as one of the best finishers in the world cricket. Meanwhile, Michael Vaughan claimed the Indian team to be old fashioned due to their approach of playing just the five bowlers.

The former England captain was shocked with the approach with which the Men In Blue played against the current world champions. Vaughan had made an early prediction that Australia will triumph over the visitors across all the three formats.

Vaughan’s stood with his call as he called out the Men In Blue for their appalling run rate, poor body language and substandard fielding.

The English batsman added that it could prove to be a long tour for the visitors if they don’t turn around things quickly. He also praised the Australian unit for their outstanding performance in Sydney.

Notably, India failed to chase down a massive total of 375 runs in the game and could only manage to post 300 odd runs on the board. However, Holding added that the batting line up which is playing under Kohli is talented enough but ‘still need a player like Dhoni.’

“We never see MS Dhoni panicking at any stage while India are chasing. He usually paces that chase so well because he knows his ability and he knows how to go about the chase. Whoever is batting with him, he is always talking with them and helping them. Fantastic batting lineup, but MS Dhoni was a special man with the bat in the run-chase,” he further added.

However, they managed to put up 300-odd runs in the first game due to Shikhar Dhawan and Hardik Pandya. They played crucial roles in the middle after losing their star player and captain Virat Kohli very early in the innings. It is also noteworthy that, the team was playing without their key opener – Rohit Sharma.
