In a thrilling showdown at the Paris Olympics 2024, the United States of America (USA) clinched the top spot on the medal table, narrowly surpassing arch-rivals China. The USA and China were deadlocked with 40 gold medals each at the end of the Games. The contest for most gold medals came down to the wire, reminiscent of their close battle in the previous 2020 Tokyo Games.

USA’s dominance at the Paris Olympics

The decisive moment arrived in the women’s basketball final between Team USA and France. In a nail-biting thriller, the USA emerged victorious, defeating France 67-66. This victory secured their position atop the medal standings for the fourth successive time.

USA clinched 126 medals in total, including 40 gold, 44 silver, and 42 bronze. China claimed 91 medals, with 40 golds. Notably, China last topped the medal table in Beijing in 2008.

The USA showcased its might in track and field events, claiming 14 gold medals, along with 11 silver and 9 bronze. They also excelled in the pool, securing a total of 28 medals, including 8 golds.

India finished in the 71st spot with a total of 6 medals: five bronze and one silver. Wrestler Vinesh Phogat challenged her disqualification in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), potentially adding another medal to India’s tally.

Pakistan finished 62nd, winning their first gold medal in 44 years in the men’s javelin final. Japan secured third place with 45 medals, including 20 golds, defying pre-Olympics predictions.

In this thrilling tug of war, the USA emerged as the ultimate champion, leaving fans on the edge of their seats until the very end. The Paris Olympics provided a fitting spectacle of athletic excellence and global competition.
