Manchester United have agreed a record deal of £80 million transfer fee to land Leicester defender Harry Maguire, whose medical is scheduled for tomorrow.
According to The Sun, the Red Devils have beaten their city rivals in bringing the England international to Old Trafford, a deal that would make the 26-year old the World’s most expensive defender, which is currently held by Liverpool’s Virgil Van Dijk who arrived at Anfield for £75 million in 2018.
After a previous failed offer of £70 million, the United chiefs increased the fee, £60 million up front with a further £20 million in installments.
Leicester were holding out for £90 million for their superstar, but Maguire informed the club in the past few days that he was unhappy that they could potentially price him out of a move.
As a result, the Foxes immediately granted him the wish for a future away from King Power Stadium, and will make a healthy £43 million profit, after landing the defender from Hull City for £17 million in 2017.
The Foxes have already found a replacement for their leader with Lewis Dunk, 27, set to join from Brighton in a £45 million swoop.
Ex-United boss José Mourinho had been desperate to sign the centre-back last year, after the former Tigers man’s brilliant performances for England at the World Cup.
Maguire will fly to Manchester to complete his medical on Monday.
