Should Tyson Fury Fight Francis Ngannou?

A two-time world heavyweight champion, the boxing world needs no introduction to Tyson Luke Fury. Nicknamed The Gypsy King, the Manchester-born British boxer is in a league of his own compared to many of his contemporaries.

What keeps people interested in Tyson Fury is not only what he achieved during the peak of his career but how he keeps finding a way to come back into the ring. Few boxers have retired as often as Fury, but despite being 34, he still wants to give it a go in competitive fights.

Many would argue that Fury has already achieved everything in the sport. He has a gold medal to his name at the English National Championships, while he has fought against and beaten some of the biggest names in his weight class. What keeps Fury going is not necessarily the chasing of records but the desire to remain relevant.

With rumors circulating that another fight may be around the corner, we debate whether Tyson Fury should fight Francis Ngannou or back out of the showpiece event.

Tyson Fury At His Peak

When Tyson Fury was at his peak, some of his most epic and memorable fights came against Derek Chisora. Fury lost the first time he came up against Chisora, but he was determined to get a rematch and made the most of his chance when it did arrive.

During Fury vs. Chisora II, Fury got his revenge and won the European Heavyweight Championship. He then took on Christian Hammer, who was meant to be a warm-up for a world title fight. Fury was successful in that bout, defeating Hammer in the eighth round through a corner stoppage.

Ultimately, he faced off against Wladimir Klitschko, defeating him in the ring to claim his  WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, IBO, Lineal, and The Ring heavyweight titles. Fury had to go through a lot just to get the fight, but beating his fancied opponent was an achievement he would never top for the rest of his career.

The Most Recent Fury Fights

One of the most impressive recent fights from Tyson Fury came in 2022 against Dillian Whyte. He was ordered to go through with the fight by the WBC president, who stated that Fury had to defend his WBC title or lose the belt.

While there were some delays in getting the fight up and running, Fury was ultimately victorious in the ring. He had to go through a great deal, but he defeated the challenger Whyte and held onto his title. However, when all was said and done, Fury announced he was retiring from the sport and would give up his Ring title.

Later in 2022, Fury took on Derek Chisora for the third time in his career in a grudge match. Many saw the bout as a way for both athletes to make money later in their careers, even though they were not necessarily the main draws of the sport anymore.

Despite being in his 30s, Fury still managed to impress a 60,000 crowd and defeat Chisora through a TKO in the 10th round of the fight. He held onto his WBC title, which he still has not given up, showing he is a force to be reckoned with in the ring.Tyson Fury: The Comeback King of Boxing

Who is Francis Ngannou?

A Cameroonian-French MMA fighter who can also box, Francis Ngannou, is nearing the end of his UFC career. At his peak, he was the UFC Heavyweight Champion. He is now in his mid-30s, the same age as Tyson Fury, which does make the potential fight between the two an exciting prospect for many fans.

When fans heard about Tyson Fury challenging Ngannou to a fight, they felt he was ready to try his hand at UFC. That would have been a huge challenge for Fury and made Ngannou the favorite.

In reality, Fury wants a special rules boxing match against the MMA star. Such an event does appear to be unlikely, given Ngannou would have to put himself at a huge disadvantage to agree to such a fight.

Will Tyson Fury Fight Francis Ngannou?

Unless there is a change of heart on the part of Francis Ngannou, there does not appear to be much momentum leaning toward him fighting Tyson Fury. The British boxer may want the fight to happen, but a special rules boxing match would severely weaken Ngannou, an MMA fighter.

Unless Fury agrees to cancel some of the rules he wants in the match, or it becomes an MMA event, we may have to wait a lot longer to see a Fury vs. Ngannou bout in the ring.Tyson Fury: The Comeback King of Boxing
