A couple of protesters made their way into the Sydney Cricket Ground during the first ODI between India and Australia. One of the invaders was seen carrying a sign protesting the Adani’s coal project in the country.

The interruption caused a brief delay in the proceedings just as Navdeep Saini was gearing up to bowl the first delivery of the fifth over. Security personnel had to make their way onto the pitch to escort the protesters off the field to resume play.

The placard sign carried by the protester read “No $1BN Loan Adani Loan”. SBI are reportedly set to offer a Rs 5000 Cr loan to the Adani Group for their mining enterprise in Australia named Bravus Mining & Resources.

Navdeep Saini was brought in as the first change in the bowling after Mohammad Shami and Jasprit Bumrah shared the new ball. Virat Kohli and co. were asked to field first by Australian skipper Aaron Finch.

With bare minimum assistance from the pitch and the Indian pacers’ erratic line and length, the opening pair of David Warner and Aaron Finch got off to a brilliant start by registering 156 runs for the first wicket.

Before play, both teams observed a minute of silence in honour of Dean Jones and the teams also participated in a stance against racism by entering the pitch barefooted for a ceremony before play.

#TeamIndia took part in the Barefoot Circle ceremony pledging their support against racism and joined Australia in acknowledging traditional owners of the land. BCCI’s tweet read

This marks India’s first International fixture in 290 days. Meanwhile, Australia contested their last ODI in front of an empty stadium. However, this time around, the stadiums in Australia have been allowed to fill in half of the capacity.
