La Masia- a name every football watches has heard of, a name every FC Barcelona fan cherishes. The youth system has produced some of the finest players to grace the field, and there are more to come. In the wake of Lionel Messi’s 50th free kick goal, a former youth player has given a declaration on two La Masia graduates who could allegedly take better free kicks than the club talisman himself!
Roger Giribet Sabartes, a Barça youth academy product who currently plays for CE Artesa De Segre in Segona Catalana, 6th tier of the Spanish football league system, has approached forward with two names- Víctor Vázquez and Juanjo Clausí, probably nobody has ever heard of them.
However, the 32 year old defender has imputed that those two academy players were preferred over Messi, when a free kick was in question.
“Víctor Vázquez, who was amazing, and the left-footed Juanjo Clausí used to take them. Messi almost never.” Sabartes spoke to Goal.com, recollecting old memories of his ex teammates.
Vázquez currently plays for Qatar Stars League side Umm Salal SC, and there have been examples of free kicks taken by the former Club Brugge midfielder that supports Sarbates’s claim.
Clausí, a winger at Tercera División side Paterna CF, didn’t make it to the level of Vázquez, and had his top tier experience only with the Blaugranas under 19 team.
Wednesday’s 5-1 devastation of the Pucelle saw Messi scoring a brace, including the 35 yard screamer that completed his half century of free kicks. Valverde and his boys are now in the top spot of the table with 22 points.
