India’s pride Mary Kom has been ranked number one in the flyweight category by AIBA in the latest rankings update. The six-time World Champion had 1700 points in her bag, the highest one can accumulate in a calendar year.
“Magnificient Mary”, as she is fondly known as, had a stellar 2018 winning the gold medal in the Commonwealth Games and clinching her sixth World Championship title in New Delhi in November. Furthermore, she even picked up the gold medal at a tournament in Poland and finished second in the much acclaimed Strandja Memorial in Bulgaria.
The Twitteratis heaped their praise on the living legend and hoped that she could continue her fine form into the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Here is how they responded:
