JR Smith and the Cleveland Cavaliers have mutually agreed for him to leave the team as both sides are working on a trade deal according to Brian Windhorst of ESPN.
JR Smith went to four straight NBA titles, he officially requested the franchise asking for a trade. Smith also thinks Cleveland has been tanking.
According to Joe Vardon of The Athletic, both Cleveland and Smith have agreed that he will not join the team from this point as an ideal trade scenario is being figured out.
Twitter went frenzy over this revelation, here are the best reactions:

JR Smith's contract has some arcane but legit value as it's grandfathered into the old CBA. Therefore it can be traded for his full $15.6M value and then waived for his $3.8M guarantee next summer. This makes it somewhat of an asset so buyout is unlikely right now.

JR Smith will sit out until the Cavs find a team they can trade him to (ESPN)

JR Smith. One of my favorite Cavaliers ever. Endured a child born with extreme health problems…so tough. You will never be forgotten and I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors. pic.twitter.com/3RkBlIzfc3

Not sure what the Cavs are going to do with JR Smith now but I bet John Dorsey gets a 5th round pick out of the deal.

JR Smith is a Cavs legend and I’ll miss him. Never forget what he did in game 7 of the NBA Finals.

JR Smith will no longer be actively with the Cavs, a league source tells me. He is working with the team to trade him, and in the meantime will work out on his own

Look at all those teams lining up to make their pitch as @cavs try to trade JR Smith…

Very amused by JR Smith asking for a trade. Another team has to want you for a trade to occur.
