India’s loss in the first Test against New Zealand broke the hearts of many Indian fans, but on the second day of the second Test, Ravindra Jadeja has given them, and cricket fans all over the world, something to cheer for. His stunner of a catch to dismiss Neil Wagner became the highlight of the day.

A surprising, solid 51 run batting partnership between speedsters Wagner and Kyle Jamieson was broken by Mohd Shami but it was Jadeja who garnered all the credits. The ball was a bouncer and Wagner pulled it towards deep square leg. Jadeja leapt in the air and put his left hand out and fortunately for him, the ball stuck as he came tumbling down but managed to hold on to the catch.

Both Jadeja and Wagner were stunned at the former’s catch, as evidenced by their bewildered looks. At Tea break, Journalists obviously asked Jadeja about the catch. He answered: “I knew he would play a shot there. I was waiting at fine leg but I didn’t know that the ball would come at double pace. I just put my hands there and it stuck.”

Before this superhuman effort, Jadeja, situated at backward point, took a brilliant diving catch to dismiss BJ Watling off a Jasprit Bumrah delivery. The catches obviously helped India dismiss New Zealand for 233 and gain a small yet crucial first innings lead of 7 runs.

Twitterati was deservedly stunned by the superhuman catch, especially the Indians. They can’t stop going gaga over the catch and many of them are calling the catch one of the greatest outfield catches of all time in Test Cricket. Even the Black Caps’ official Twitter handle tweeted calling the catch the highlight of the day. Let’s see a sample of the Twitterati’s reaction, the praise, the jokes, the humour, here:
