The future of Indian squash looks promising with the inclusion of Anahat Singh, Abhay Singh, and Velavan Senthilkumar in the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) Development Group. This strategic move signals a shift towards long-term Olympic planning, with a focus on the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Anahat Singh: At just 16, Anahat is already a national champion with over 46 titles in the national circuit. She has started making waves on the international front as the current Asian U-17 champion and winner of two PSA World Tour titles. She also has two Asian Games medals under her belt. Anahat’s inclusion in TOPS is expected to provide her with the support she needs to improve her game and prepare for international competition.
Abhay Singh: Abhay, 25, is the current National Games gold medallist and National Championship Silver medalist. He has won 9 PSA World Tour Titles and was part of the Indian Men’s team that won the Asian Games Gold in Hangzhou in 2023. Abhay’s inclusion in TOPS will provide him with the necessary support to climb up the PSA rankings.
Velavan Senthilkumar: Currently ranked 55 in PSA rankings, Velavan Senthilkumar has shown a great improvement over the years. His recent success includes the Batch Open title in France where he defeated some of the world’s best.
The inclusion of these young squash players in the TOPS Development Group is a significant moment for squash in India. Squash was inducted into the 2028 Olympics programme in October at the 141st IOC Congress in Mumbai. This recognition signifies a broader endorsement of squash as a significant sporting discipline within the country.
The baton of Indian squash, once held by renowned names like Saurav Ghosal, Dipika Pallikal, and Joshna Chinappa, is now being passed to the next generation of players like Anahat, Abhay, and Velavan. Their inclusion in TOPS opens doors to international exposure and collaboration, fostering exchange programs and partnerships with leading squash nations.
