Ever since the emergence of the Pro Panja League, in a very short span of time the sport of Arm Wrestling has seen a massive surge in popularity across the country. The thrill and the unpredictability the sport brings to the table have made it a must-watch sport for fans.
While the sport of Arm Wrestling has existed in the country for a long time, the professional Arm Wrestling scene started taking shape when Pro Panja League introduced its first ranking tournament in Delhi at the Thayagraj Sports Complex. Since then, Pro Panja has scheduled numerous fight nights and has produced a lot of star Arm Wrestlers.
Here are the top 10 female Arm Wrestlers in India
Chetna Sharma
Chetna Sharma is a six-time National Champion and also the winner of the under 65 kg champion of the inaugural Pro Panja League ranking tournament which took place at the Thyagaraj Stadium in New Delhi in February 2020. In May, she took part in the 44th Assam State Arm Wrestling Championship where she won a Gold medal. She also took part in the Pro Panja Mega Matches-2 which took place in March 2021 at the Majestic Pride Casino Ship in Goa.
Yogesh Chaudhary
Yogesh Choudhary hails from Haryana and participated in the 19th Delhi State Arm Wrestling Championship in March 2021 after being introduced to the sport by her husband. After finding out about PPL, Yogesh participated in the Pro Panja League X Sheru Classic Arm-Wrestling Championship where she won a Gold medal in the above 65 kg category. She also won a gold medal at the 44th Arm Wrestling Nationals in Hyderabad and then participated in the 2022 Pro Panja League X Sheru Classic Arm-Wrestling Championship where she won a Gold medal in the women’s Above 65 kg category.
Jincy Jose
Hailing from Kerala, Jincy Jose is a Six-time National Champion. Her Arm Wrestling career started in 2014 when she started taking part in competitive Arm Wrestling in the district tournaments. Last year, Jincy competed in the Pro Panja League Mega Matches-1 where she defeated Shruti Bawa. She also won a silver medal in the 44th Arm Wrestling Nationals in the above 65kg category.
Karishma Kapoor
Karishma Kapoor is one of the most versatile athletes to grace the sport of arm wrestling. Hailing from New Delhi, Karishma is a National and South Asian taekwondo champion, as well as a Pro powerlifting national championship gold medallist. She bagged gold in the 2019 arm wrestling nationals and competed in PPL 2020 in the below 65 kg women category, where she came fourth. She also took part in the 2021 Sheru Classic Arm Wrestling Championship where she won a Gold medal. She again won a gold medal at the 2022 Sheru Classic Arm Wrestling Championship. She won a gold medal at the 44th Arm Wrestling Nationals.
Parmpreet Kaur
The below 65kg silver medallist of PPL 2020, Parampreet Kaur rose to the top in just three years after getting into arm wrestling. A former weightlifter who hails from Raikot in Ludhiana, Parampreet took up the sport in 2017 and won a Nationals gold medal the following year. She reached the final of the below 65kg women category at the PPL 2020 ranking tournament. She was also part of Pro Panja Mega Matches-2 which took place in Goa. She was the runner-up in that event.
Madhura Hassan
Madhura Hassan won two golds in the National Arm-Wrestling Championship in Chattisgarh back in 2019. She won the medals both in the left and right-hand categories. She participated in the Pro Panja Mega Matches-1 where she defeated Anslet Jose. Until now, she has participated in 14 state-level tournaments and has secured gold medals in all.
In the national championship in 2018, she won the bronze that took her to Turkey for an international event, where she secured 6th and 10th place in left and right-hand categories respectively. She also won a gold medal at the 44th Arm Wrestling Nationals held in Hyderabad.
K.Lalhriatpuii
She won the Gold medal in the women’s above 65 kg category at the first Pro Panja League ranking tournament which took place in New Delhi. She also secured a Bronze medal in the 44th Arm Wrestling Nationals which took place in Hyderabad. She is also a 2019 Nationals Arm Wrestling championship Gold medalist in the above 80 kg category.
The 30-year-old right-hander from Mizoram entered the sport in 2013 and began her career in The State Championship. Lalhriatpuii admires former eight-time World Champion Sarah Bäckman and aims to taste success at the world championships.
Saniya Shaikh
Saniya Shaikh is one of the rising female Arm Wrestlers of India. She won a Bronze medal at the 2021 Sheru Classic Arm Wrestling Championship. She also won a gold medal at the 44th Arm Wrestling Nationals which took place in Hyderabad.
Ardhra Suresh
Hailing from Kerala, Ardhra Suresh won the silver medal at the 2021 Sheru Classic X Pro Panja League tournament which took place in Mumbai. She won a gold medal at the 44th Arm Wrestling Tournament which took place in Hyderabad last June.
Vanramnghaki
Vanramnghaki hails from Aizawlm the capital of Mizoram. The 30-year-old clinched a silver medal at the 2019 Nationals, competing in the 80kg category. A right-hander, Vanramnghaki has an aim to become a world champion. She bagged a silver in PPL 2020 ranking tournament after losing the above 65kg women’s category final against K.Lalhriatpuii.
