Recently appointed as the sporting director of the Sunrisers Hyderabad, Tom Moody expressed his admiration for debutant Mohammad Siraj. The pacer picked up five wickets on his test debut at the MCG and constantly probed the Aussie batting unit with his tight line and length along with the duration of his spells. Moody claimed that the player is perfect for overseas conditions.

The coach noted the contributions of Siraj while speaking with ESPN Cricinfo. He recalled the bowler’s beginning in the IPL with the Sunrisers Hyderabad before moving onto Royal Challengers Bangalore to play under Virat Kohli. He added that Siraj looked like he belonged in test cricket.

“Mohammed Siraj, I think was really impressive. We’re talking another wonderful Indian cricket story. He tried to save every single run which is what you want from a captain’s and a coach’s perspective, which is so important.” the former Australian cricketer said

The 55-year-old continued to praise the debutant by commenting on his ability to challenge the batsman. Moreover, due to his ability to present the seam, Moody feels that Siraj is a wonderful addition to the Indian side, especially overseas.

“He chased it down with everything he possibly had, threw himself around in the field with a youthful experience, but my gosh when he threw the ball, he knew exactly what he was doing, he knew his role, he bowled the right length, he challenged the batsmen’s front pat constantly,”.

“He’s quick enough to disturb top-order players. India have found a keeper there and he’s someone who will thrive overseas as well because of the way he presents the seam. He can swing the ball and get movement off the pitch. He’s a great find for India.” Moody concluded

Mohammad Siraj was called into action after regular starter Mohammed Shami fractured his arm during the first test in Adelaide. While Siraj was only handed the ball in the 28th over, he was able to make an impact.

He notched up the wicket of Marnus Labuschagne to begin the proceedings before trapping Cameron Green LBW. Meanwhile, in the second innings, Siraj played an instrumental role in minimising the Australian lead with the wickets of Travis Head, Cameron Green and Nathan Lyon.

Siraj is expected to retain his place in the playing eleven alongside Bumrah as the pacers. A third seamer is bound to join the duo with Umesh Yadav being ruled out due to injury. Various names have been thrown around as a potential replacement including Shardul Thakur and T Natarajan.
