The Cycle To The Sea Fundraiser is a unique 180-mile cycling trip that takes place every year over the course of three days. For 2023 he event will take place Oct 19-21st.

The cycling event starts at Atrium Health Union Hospital in Monroe, N.C. and ends in North Myrtle Beach S.C.  The effort to support the cause is being contributed to by group of amazing volunteers, able bodied & adaptive bikers, and officials from ASAP (Adaptive Sports & Adventure Program) at Atrium Health Carolinas Rehabilitation.

Talking about the event, Tom Baskind said, “My very first ride in the Cycle to the Sea event took place in April of 2013, and I can’t wait to be back this year.  It is an incredibly positive atmoshpere and brings out the very best in everyone involved. ”

Baskind started participating in Cycle to the Sea to support his close friend Brian Muscarella, who was paralyzed by a rare spinal stroke in 2011.

“Brian is a true inspiration and the epitome of persistence and determination.  I am simply in awe of what he has been able to accomplish- and Cycle to The Sea has had a critical impact.”

The Adaptive Sports & Adventures Program (ASAP) at Atrium Health Carolinas Rehabilitation raises much needed funds from the annual Cycle to the Sea ride, which also promotes awareness and advocates for people who have physical difficulties and provides important support for the program.

ASAP is an organization that creates opportunities for individuals with physical disabilities to participate in both competitive and recreational adaptive sports, as well as opportunities for supporters, and encourages adaptive sports people to achieve their personal objectives.

People of any age who have endured life-altering injuries and underlying diseases, such as spinal cord injury, stroke, brain injury, and cancer can receive high-quality inpatient and outpatient recovery care daily at Carolinas Rehabilitation. This care is provided to patients at both facilities.

Since Carolinas Rehabilitation is a rehab and health center that does not operate for profit, a significant portion of the additional personnel and equipment that is required to develop and maintain innovative programs comes from philanthropic contributions made by individuals and organizations outside of the hospital.

With your support, Carolinas Rehabilitation will be able to keep providing a range of low- or no-cost services to children, adolescents, and adults residing in Charlotte city and the areas immediately around it who are coping with some kind of physical impairment.
