The Indian hockey team are continuing on with their stellar run at the Tokyo Olympics this year and their latest triumph has been against Great Britain as India defeated them 3-1 to secure a place in the semis.

The Men in Blue opened up the scoreboard in the first quarter, with the opening goal of the match coming from Dilpreet Singh, putting India in a 1-0 lead.

Minutes after the first goal, Britain aimed to equalize and get back into the scoring but a superb save from goalkeeper PR Sreejesh kept India ahead.

Moments into the second quarter and Gurjant Singh scored the second goal for India, who were now 2-0 up against Britain. The first half ended with India dominating throughout the match.

The second half saw another remarkable save from Sreejesh, negating Britain another chance to get back into the game. However, the trailing side finally managed to net one in in the final moments of Q3 thanks to Samuel Ian Ward, making the scoreline 2-1.

However, Sreejesh continued to be the wall for India in front of their goal, denying Britain back to back penalty corners. With four minutes remaining in the final quarter, Hardik Singh put the third nail in Britain’s coffin as India finished the match with an superb 3-1 finish.

Now, they will be up against Belgium on 3rd August in their first semi final appearance since the 1972 Games.
